Design and construction

Transit Wireless builds network infrastructure with scale and interoperability as part of our design. Modular equipment and a segmented network enable agile technology adoption and support multi-tenancy and carrier-grade services. Our experience within the stringent demands of an underground subway system allowed us to develop specialized installation methods to accelerate project execution and minimize the impact on riders.

Cellular coverage solutions

The Transit Wireless neutral host Distributed Antenna System (DAS) design delivers uninterrupted cellular connectivity throughout subway stations to support Carrier and rider expectations. The design enables the right customer experience whether it be voice, data or video, all without interruption. Because it’s a neutral host network, we provide service to all major U.S. mobile Carriers: AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon Wireless. Our high-speed fiber optic network connects to the respective Carrier’s equipment located in a secure, climate-controlled, continuously monitored Transit Wireless Base Station Hotel.

Base Station Hotels (BSH)

We own and operate five BSHs across NYC’s five boroughs. Located separately from transit real estate, the ‘hotels’ host a mix of inbuilding, RAN, DAS, small cell and macro coverage solutions.

Wi-Fi coverage and IP solutions

Our transit Wi-Fi and IP solutions enable passengers and transit staff to stay connected across 281 underground subway platforms in New York City. We operate the latest 802.11ac access points, moving to Wi-Fi 6 in the near future.

Public Wi-Fi

A free service to riders supported by a sophisticated advertising platform.

Private networks

High-quality, secure, private Wi-Fi and IP networks with their own SSID and dedicated bandwidth.

Advertising

Transit authorities can unlock new revenue streams with connectivity for digital advertising screens and personal devices.

Data offload

Offloading data onto Wi-Fi networks is a cost-effective way to take the strain off wireless Carrier networks and enable a seamless customer experience.

Safety and security are at the forefront of our networks, and we support numerous essential public safety services within transit systems.

Dedicated fiber for transit

The Transit Wireless fiber optic network provides a private, dedicated omnibus LAN within the subway system, which allows New York City Transit (NYCT) to control and manage its own network, as needed. Our fiber network enables NYCT to upgrade, expand and take full advantage of future technologies.

Network operations

Our fully staffed Network Operations Center provides around-the-clock network monitoring and support 365 days a year.
